UNICEF calls pledging conference to prioritize Yemeni children, respect their fundamental rights
SANAA, Feb. 25 (YPA) – The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has called on Pledging conference to give priority to children in Yemen respect their fundamental rights.
Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, said in the pledging conference to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
The UNICEF Regional Director affirmed that around 1.2 million of the Yemeni children face the active conflict every day due to the war.
Cappelaere said that” the brutal war on children in Yemen continues in the inflicts zones, including Hodeidah, Taiz, Hajjah and Saada.
“Not enough has changed for children in Yemen since the Stockholm agreement on 13 December 2018,” the UN official said.
Cappelaere added that the UNICEF and its humanitarian partners have stepped up efforts to address the enormous needs of the children.
“UNICEF appeals for $ 542 million in 2019 to continue to respond to the overwhelming the humanitarian needs of the children in Yemen,” he said.
