WHO: Cancer has Become a Death Sentence Towards the Yemeni Citizens

SH.A.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement that 35,000 people, including over 1,000 children, are suffering from the cancer disease in Yemen. WHO warned of cancer has become a death sentence towards the Yemeni citizens.

Altaf Musani, WHO Representative in Yemen, said that “non-communicable diseases account for 57% of all deaths in Yemen and cancer affects all age groups in the country, over 60% of whom are aged 30-69 years old.”

“This is the case for many Yemenis who cannot afford the cost of treatment, and who stay at home and wait for death to relieve their pain,” it said.

Only an end to the war can bring lasting relief to the children of Yemen. But until then, the international community must continue to put pressure on all sides to urgently address the humanitarian crisis.
