The Epidemiological Situation in Yemen During 2018: Report

Yemen’s Ministry of Health revealed a report showing the epidemiological situation in Yemen in 2018 and the prevalence of diseases.

It is the beginning of the year 2019, which will end the fourth year of war on Yemen and the fifth will begin under the brutal Saudi aggression and the siege of the coalition countries led by America and Saudi Arabia.

2018 was a terrifying nightmare for the Yemeni people, who lived the scourge of siege and aggression for 4 years, thousands of them were hurt by several ways, some were killed by the direct bombing of the air force aggression or by the indirect bombardment (siege and health effects) which suffered (about 4.900.000) Yemeni people by diseases, the details are as follows:

– The Ministry of Health recorded 612742 cases of malaria during 2018, added to previous figures for previous years. The province of Hodeidah is in the forefront of the most affected provinces of malaria, Hajja province is the second province and then Taiz.

– A child dies every 10 minutes due to malnutrition or other diseases (according to a UN report issued in September 2018)- Fifteen women die every day at delivery for reasons caused by aggression and siege.

– About 44913 cases of Maltese fever, Dhamar province in the forefront and then the capital Sana’a on the list of the most casualties.

– About 6,943 rabies cases, Dhamar and Ibb are at the top of the list with a significant shortage of drugs for the disease.

– Leishmaniasis has been affected by about 4742 during the past year.

– Schistosomiasis has infected 24871 people, as well as Pulmonary tuberculosis has infected 4002 people in the past year.

– The spread of smallpox disease in 2018 more than it was previously infected about 36672 people- 32811. Yemenis also suffering from mumps disease (Parotiditis).

– 28031 cases of dengue fever in 2018 other 2576 cases of meningitis.

– 361266 cases of diarrhea and related diseases such as cholera, of whom 493 died.

– 122 cases of Neonatal Tetanus, as well as 5091 case of Hepatitis B & C, other 14231 Hepatitis A and E.

– 73654 cases of Pertussis. 24132 measles cases. 240208 Typhoid infection.

The report explained that this statistic is only for those who have been referred to hospitals and health centers, and their condition has been monitored, noting that there are other dozens were unable to go to hospitals for several reasons, the most important one is the poor financial situation suffered by the Yemeni citizen since coalition transferred Yemen’s bank from Sana’a to Aden
