Diplomatic sources say that the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths will visit Yemen next Saturday to resume efforts to achieve peace.
The visit is expected in light of the efforts of the Saudi-led coalition to escalate, especially in the west coast of Yemen.
The United Nations expressed its deep concern over the operation launched by the Saudi-led coalition on Yemen towards the city of Hodeida.
UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement on Wednesday that, “we are very concerned about the situation in the vicinity of Hodeida,” adding that UN staff has been drawing up contingency plans and intensifying deliveries of relief items.
Furthermore, Yemeni sources state that the visit of the UN envoy to Yemen at this particular time came at the request of the Gulf, particularly after the failure of the countries of the coalition from advancing towards the province of Hodeida over the past weeks, which led to considerable losses among the ranks of Saudi-paid fighters.
