PM meets WFP executive director

Prime Minister Abdulaziz bin Habtoor has met with World Food Program executive director David Beasley and his accompanying delegation.

In the meeting, bin Habtoor and Beasley discussed the humanitarian situation and the progress of the program’s activities in Yemen.

The premier reviewed aspects of the human tragedy experienced by the Yemeni people, which is the largest in the world since World War II, and the aggravation it witnessed compared to the last visit of the Program Director to Yemen.

He stressed that the horrific and continuous humanitarian deterioration holds the international community, in the forefront of which is the United Nations and its affiliates, a great humanitarian and moral responsibility, and it is imperative for them to increase the volume of support and backing for Yemen, and not the other way around.

For his part, Beasley praised the cooperation shown by the Salvation Government to implement the WFP projects in Yemen.

He indicated that his current visit comes as part of the program’s effort to mobilize international public opinion and the donor community to support the humanitarian aspects in Yemen

Beasley explained that working as a team and intensifying joint efforts contribute to serving the Yemeni people and making an effective contribution to serving them and alleviating their suffering.

He said, “We will do everything in our power to mobilize more funds to meet the requirements of the Yemeni people in all possible sectors, and seek to prevent the current crisis, especially the economic situation, from reflecting on the situation in Yemen and thus causing more suffering.”
