Transport Minister calls on UN to cooperate seriously on ‘Safer’ ship issue

Transport Minister Amer Al-Marani on Tuesday called on the United Nations to cooperate and work with seriousness and interest in the issue of Safer ship (oil floating tank) to preserve the environment and marine life.

This came during his meeting in Sana’a with Samia Al-Duaij, an environmental and emergency response expert at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting dealt with the repercussions and catastrophic risks that may result from any oil spill from the Safer Reservoir in the Red Sea.

The Transport Minister expressed his regret for the United Nations’ inattention of the agreements regarding the Safer ship and its failure to implement the outcomes of the meetings in this regard.

Al-Marani explained that the aggression coalition countries led by Saudi Arabia withdrew the ship’s crew and prevented the engineers from providing the ship’s maintenance needs.
