Popular Rejection of Emirati Presence in Yemeni Balhaf Gas Facility
The “Yemeni Scene” program examines the recent period that witnessed widespread protests against the UAE presence in the Balhaf gas facility in the oil and gas-rich Shabwa governorate, which contributed to the collapse of the national currency and created a humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
The Yemeni Scene program sheds light on the Yemeni assertion that the UAE is a major contributor to the suffering of the people and that it steals, loots and funds its mercenaries.
The Yemeni scene also stressed that expelling the Emirates from Balhaf and from all of Yemen is not a point of view, but rather a national decision. The rulers of the Emirates must submit to the people’s desire, considering that expelling them from Balhaf is one of the most important solutions to the crisis in the country.
The Yemeni Scene program also addresses the issue of the UAE’s occupation of the Balhaf facility and its transformation into a military operations center affiliated with Abu Dhabi, where there are more than 1,000 Emirati soldiers.
The program highlighted what Yemeni activists said, that Balhaf is the largest investment project in Yemen, which the UAE has turned into a military barracks and prisons since 2017, and Yemen loses 4 billion dollars annually due to this occupation.
The Yemeni Scene program also discusses the reason for the Western and international silence on the UAE presence in Yemen and its danger to the country’s future.
