Dozens of citizens were infected with a case of mass poisoning in Al-Hujariyah area, southwest of Taiz province, media sources said on Friday.
The World Food Program (WFP) has distributed rotten rice through a local partner in Al-Hujariyah area and parts of Taiz city, which caused a case of poisoning among dozens of citizens, according to “Al-Tagheeir Press” website.
Dozens of citizens suffered from severe poisoning, many of whom were transferred to health centers as a result of spoiled food aid, according to medical sources.
The sources accused the local partner, the “Yemeni Family Welfare Association”, of knowing that rice has expired, but the project organizers distributed it to citizens to obtain financial benefits.
The citizens had severe watery diarrhea with pus and blood as a result of bacteria caused by expired food, the sources explained.
