Canceling Air Medical Bridge through Sana’a Airport Exacerbates Humanitarian Situation

The head of Supreme Medical Committee, Mutahar Al-Darwish, stated that World Health Organization decided to cancel the air medical bridge through Sana’a International Airport.

Al-Darwish said that, year after the announcement of the suspension of the air medical bridge and the registration of thousands cases, the World Health Organization informs us of the cancellation of  Sana’a International Airport air medical bridge.

He stated that World Health Organization attributed the decision to cancel the medical air bridge to what it called the financial conditions experienced by United Nations organization. There are approximately ten thousand who died out of the 35 thousand cases that were registered during the suspended period.

The director of Sana’a International Airport, Khaled Al-Shayef, stated that the airport, since the decision to close it five years ago, has been turned into an airport for employees of UN organizations only.

He said that more than 5,000 UN flights have landed at Sana’a International Airport since it was closed five years ago.

He stated that most of UN flights on Sana’a International Airport since it was closed to civilian flights came for the special purposes of UN staff and their families.

He revealed that all UN organizations did not allow any sick cases to be boarded on their flights to Sana’a International Airport.

He revealed that one of United Nations organizations threatened to stop its activities if the Ministry of Health.

He explained that most of the international flights to Sana’a International Airport do have large number of passengers, while planes can accommodate dozens of passengers, and the planes are almost empty.
