Death toll in Haiti earthquake rises to 724
The death toll from Yesterday’s earthquake in southwestern Haiti, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, has risen to 724.
“The earthquake killed 724 people, destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings in addition to causing significant damage to churches, hotels, hospitals and schools .Rescue operations continued to find survivors buried under debris,” Reuters quoted local officials as saying at a press conference on Sunday.
The previous toll indicated that 304 people were killed and 1,800 injured in the earthquake.
The poorest country on the American continent continues to recall the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, which devastated the capital and many cities, killing more than 200,000 people, injuring more than 300 others and displacing 1.5 million people.
