6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia’s coast

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia’s coast on Tuesday, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The quake was recorded at 22:48 UTC (01.48 – Moscow time).

The epicenter of the quake was 246 Km west of the City of Bengkulu on Sumatra island and 53 Km depth, the centre said.

There was no information on destruction or casualties, nor was there a tsunami warning.

In January, Indonesia was hit by a devastating earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, in  which least 78 people were killed  in the western province of Sulawesi.
