SCMCHA Secretary General meets UN Under-Secretary-General

Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (SCMCHA) Abdul Mohsen Tawoos has met with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund Natalia Kanem, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting held on Sunday, Tawoos and Kanem discussed the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe that the Yemeni people are going through as a result of the aggression and blockade that has exacerbated the humanitarian situation.

Tawoos pointed to the need for the United Nations Population Fund to return to provide more support to hospitals and health centers that were previously received from the Fund.

He pointed out the continuation of the blockade and the closure of Sana’a International Airport, which led to a marked deterioration in the health situation, and that the lack of oil derivatives, caused a partial closure of some services in hospitals and health centers, which increased the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Tawoos affirmed the SCMCHA is ready to provide facilities to organizations to enable them to provide humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, pointing to the keenness of joint work between the SCMCHA and the Fund through a joint mechanism for rapid and emergency response and access to all affected areas.

He expressed his hope that the Fund would support the youth and sports sector as part of its interventions in other countries in the areas of youth, health, and economic empowerment.

Tawoos called for intensifying the efforts of the United Nations, its organizations, and agencies in conveying the suffering and grievance of the Yemeni people, who are living in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, which requires urgent international intervention to stop the aggression, lift the comprehensive blockade, and take humanitarian measures, foremost of which is the lifting of the embargo imposed on the port of Hodeida.

In return, Kanem affirmed that she would strive to mobilize and provide the necessary humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people.
