FM meets new UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen
Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, met on Sunday with William David Gressly on the occasion of his accreditation as the United Nations Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen.
The meeting touched on the final preparations for the donors’ conference for Yemen, to be held on March 1, 2021, in Switzerland.
In the meeting, the Foreign Minister welcomed the new resident representative of the United Nations in Yemen, confirming that he would receive all facilities from the National Salvation Government.
Sharaf explained that the meeting coincides with a new wave of the collective punishment policy adopted by Saudi-led aggression coalition through preventing ships of oil derivatives and domestic gas from entering the port of Hodeida.
“These practices would be confronted with full force by targeting the vital military and economic facilities of Saudi Arabia to enforce the Saudi regime to listen to the voice of peace, respect human rights, and stop targeting Yemenis in their livelihood and civilian objects,” he said.
He affirmed that Sanaa desires a just peace based on respect for national sovereignty.
For his part, Gressly indicated that he would focus on the humanitarian work and confronting the humanitarian disaster in Yemen, in cooperation with all United Nations offices, organizations, agencies and programs operating in the country.
