FM meets WFP representative in Yemen

Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf discussed on Monday with the Resident Representative of the World Food Programme in Yemen Laurent Bukera the latest humanitarian developments in the country.

The meeting also dealt with aspects related to the ongoing activities of the WFP in Yemen and ways to enhance mutual cooperation in this regard.

In the meeting, Minister Sharaf touched on the continuation of the comprehensive siege on the country and its escalating repercussions on the humanitarian situation in the country.

The continuation of fuel ships detention sends a clear message that the hostile Saudi State is against any international or regional moves towards a just political statement and not serious about peaceful solution.

For his part, the WFP representative said that the Programme is making unremitting efforts to providing aid to the Yemeni people.

Bukera stressed that there is a lack of donors’ funds, which leaves a negative impact on the Programme’s plans in the country, expressing his hope for the success of the next donors’ conference, arranged by Sweden and Switzerland to be held next month, to cover the existing shortfall in the budget of international humanitarian organizations.
