SCMCHA discusses with OCHA providing alternatives to cover civilians’ need

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (SCMCHA) has met with the Director of the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The meeting, held on Sunday, touched on the continued detention of oil derivatives ships and the unjustified measures taken by UNICEF and the WHO to stop supporting oil derivatives to the Ministry of Water, which exacerbates the humanitarian situation.

The meeting also touched on aspects related to treating patients in critical situations, especially children, and the need to pay attention to providing nurseries.

SCMCHA Secretary-General Abdul Mohsen Tawoos reviewed with OCHA Sajjad Sajid the negative effects of reducing funds and the possibility of providing alternatives to cover the need of civilians.

Tawoos stressed the need for continued coordination between the SCMCHA and OCHA as well as the need to mobilize funding to keep pace with humanitarian needs.

He pointed out that the reduction in funding for humanitarian work in the past has contributed significantly to hindering the implementation of many projects and exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni people, stressing the need to find alternatives by the OCHA in providing funds to support humanitarian work.

On his part, Sajid affirmed that the OHCA will make efforts with donors to mobilize funds and continuous coordination with the SCMCHA to cover the needs according to priorities.
