Ministry of Water and Environment Warns of Environmental, Health Disaster Caused by UNICEF
The Ministry of Water and Environment condemned the UNICEF decision to suspend fuel subsidies provided to local water institutions and sewage treatment plants, starting this January.
In a statement, the Ministry of Water and Environment warned of catastrophic humanitarian and environmental consequences as a result of this procedure, which will greatly and directly affect the operation of pumping stations and the drinking water supply in the governorates.
It indicated that the partnership relations between the Ministry and UNICEF are based on deepening humanitarian work and alleviating the suffering of citizens and not on perpetuating and multiplying suffering.
The statement clarified that the repercussions of this measure are not limited to stopping water pumping, but rather will cause sewage treatment plants to stop working, which threatens an environmental and health disaster.
The Ministry of Water and Environment called on UNICEF to reverse its decision, especially in light of the continued suffocating siege on Yemen.
