Death toll from tribal violence in Sudan’s West Darfur region rises to 83
The Doctors Committee of West Darfur State in Sudan announced that the death toll from the tribal clashes in El Geneina has risen to 83 dead and 160 injured.
In a statement published on Sunday on its Facebook page, the committee indicated that the number of people injured in the violence that raged on Saturday had recorded casualties among the armed forces.
The committee stated that medical teams are making continuous efforts to provide care to the injured, including surgeries currently underway at Al-Geneina Teaching Hospital and Al-Salah Medical Hospital.
The committee pointed out that the medical teams are still facing difficulties in transportation due to the comprehensive curfew, confirming that there are people in critical condition that need to be transported urgently to the capital, Khartoum.
Meanwhile, the Transitional Sovereignty Council announced that its president, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, was briefed on the developments in El Geneina and a number of decisions were issued in order to restore normalcy and restore security in the state.
The Director General of the Police Forces, Ezz El-Din Al-Sheikh, urged citizens to “appeal to the voice of reason and cooperate with the security services,” calling on civil society leaders to play their role and contribute to containing the crisis.
