3 Killed, 11 wounded in Taliban rocket attack in Kabul

At least three civilians were killed and 11 wounded in Taliban attack on areas in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Saturday morning, the Interior Ministry said.

News agencies reported that densely populated parts of the Afghan capital, including near the Green Zone in central Kabul, and in a northern neighborhood, had been targeted with 14 rockets.

This coincides with the announcement by Pakistan’s Arab News website that al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri died in Afghanistan from potentially natural causes.

On 24 September, twenty-eight Afghan policemen were killed by Taliban gunmen in southern Afghanistan.

An Afghan official explained that several police stations had been besieged for days, but last night Taliban fighters suggested that some police officers surrender in exchange for allowing them to return to their homes, but they were all killed after they took their weapons.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is meeting with the Taliban delegation in Qatar today to negotiate with the Afghan government amid signs of progress in their talks.

The US Department of State announced that Pompeo will meet with the Emir of Qatar and his Foreign Minister during his visit to Doha.
