Yemen, FAO discuss agricultural cooperation
The Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (SCMCHA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) discussed here on Wednesday agricultural cooperation.
SCMCHA Secretary-General Abdulmohsen Tawoos and FAO emergencies director Dominic Burgeon touched upon strengthening agricultural cooperation to strengthen agricultural cooperation in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens under the conditions of aggression and siege that the country is going through.
The SCMCHA Secretary-General stressed the importance of supporting Yemen in agricultural development to respond to desert locusts urgently because it threatens food security sources.
Tawoos looked forward to further cooperation by FAO to supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and building the capacity of its cadres, given the importance of the agricultural sector in maintaining food security.
He emphasized pesticides must be of high quality and have no side effects on agricultural crops and the environment, stressing the SCMCHA’s readiness to provide all facilities for FAO’s activities.
On his part, the UN official affirmed FAO’s keenness to continue supporting Yemen and support efforts to develop the agricultural sector and strengthen its role in combating plant pests that threaten agricultural crops, especially desert locusts.
