After lack of domestic gas, Socotra residents resort to firewood
Residents of Socotra archipelago province, in the southern of Yemen, have resorted to buying firewood due to the lack of domestic gas.
Sources in the Environment Office in Socotra said on Tuesday that the risk of logging is increasing day after day due to the lack of domestic gas in the province and its high prices on the black market.
The sources pointed out that this phenomenon leads to desertification, soil erosion and the destruction of biodiversity in the Socotra archipelago.
This comes in light of the occupation of the Socotra archipelago by the forces of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which deprived the Socotra citizens from their most basic rights, forcing them to rely on the logging.
It is noteworthy that the Socotra archipelago is also witnessing a severe crisis in oil derivatives, as well as a lack of domestic gas, which threatens the biodiversity that the province that is considered a world natural heritage site.
