5.1 magnitude earthquake strikes off Kuril Islands in Russian Far East
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean near the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin Province, in the Russian Far East, with no reports of injuries or material damage.
A source in the Unified Geophysical Authority of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that the earthquake occurred near Harimkotan Island, one of the islands of the northern group known as the “Great Kuril Chain”, at a depth of 61 km.
The source added that the agency’s Sakhalin branch had not yet received calls from local residents about the earthquake
