For the 6th Year, US-Saudi Aggression Is Destroying Telecommunications Sector in Yemen

For the sixth consecutive year, US-Saudi aircraft have continued to target the telecommunications sector in Yemen and destroy networks, switches, and towers in areas under the control of Salvation Government, with the aim of crippling the movement and stopping the telecommunications sector. Lately, local sources in Amran governorate said that US-Saudi aggression targeted telecommunication network in Eyal Suraih district with two raids, causing its destruction.

 

This operation is the third that targets the communications sector in Amran Governorate in less than two months, as coalition aircraft bombed communications networks in the Dibeen Directorate in Amran Governorate on June 17, and bombed the communications network at Bani Suraim district on the 19th of the same month.

 

The telecommunications sector is one of the sectors most affected by the US-Saudi aggression against Yemen for the sixth year in a row. A statistic issued by the Ministry of Communications revealed, at the end of last April, that the telecommunications and postal sector incurred heavy material losses during the past five years amounting to 4.1 billion dollars, equivalent to 2.5 trillion Yemeni riyals.

 

According to the statistics, the coalition launched from the beginning of March 2015 until 20 June 2020, 2,412 raids on 1031 sites and facilities belonging to the communications sector. These raids esulted in the destruction of 669 totally destroyed installations, including 1647 communication stations, 245 communication towers, in addition to the partial destruction of 362 of which 79 facilities, service office, and 46 central facilities.
