FM: Saudi Aggression’s Escalation, Targeting Civilians Violates International, Humanitarian Law

Foreign Minister, Eng. Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, met on Saturday with the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Lise Grande. In the meeting, they discussed the economic and humanitarian situation due to the continued detention of ships loaded with oil and gas derivatives. This has created a bottlenecks and an acute crisis in the availability of oil derivatives and domestic gas, threatening to multiply the repercussions of the humanitarian disaster caused by the US-Saudi aggression.

The meeting touched on the activities of United Nations organizations, programs and agencies working in Yemen and the assistance provided to the displaced and those affected by the aggression in a number of governorates. The Minister condemned the escalation that is targeting civilians, especially children and women, the last of which was the targeting Al-Hazm district in Al-Jawf Governorate. “This constitutes a continuous violation of international law and international humanitarian laws,” he said.

Minister Sharaf stressed the importance of joining everyone’s efforts to benefit from relief and food support programs. He pointed out to the Salvation Government’s keenness to facilite the work of the offices of the United Nations organizations, agencies and international NGOs working in Yemen, thus contributing to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression and the blockade.

For her part, the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen confirmed the United Nations keenness to support peace efforts and work to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
