Embattled Yemen Fights Coronavirus With Empty Hands
Directives to open all public and private hospitals to receive cases with coronavirus and to add at least twenty beds to isolation rooms and five beds for intensive care. This came at a meeting of the Yemeni Minister of Health with directors of medical centers and health offices as part of fighting the coronavirus with the available capabilities according to a vision appropriate to the conditions in the country.
“The secret of our strength, the great power that we have and possess is a single force in the face of this aggression or this virus is the medical sector and the medical staff, the angels of mercy, the medical sector and the human cadre, is the most important element in facing this danger that almost invades everyone,” the Yemeni Minister of Health, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakkil said.
In light of the collapse of the health sector in the country and the complete inability to provide medical equipment and medicines due to the blockade imposed by the Saudi-led aggression and the failure of international organizations to provide the necessary assistance and support with the inaccuracy and efficiencies of solutions and swabs sent by the World Health Organization recently, cases of infection and the spread of the corona virus increased in more than one area in Yemen, according to a statement of the Yemeni Ministry of Health.
In his part, the Director General of Kuwait University Hospital, Dr. Amin Al-Junaid said that the epidemic came while the country is under siege. “The World Health Organization and the international organization sponsoring health should support us with materials, supplies and medicines, instead, unfortunately they have no role to mention. We need respirators, we need anesthetics, we need many drugs. ”
The Supreme Committee for Combating Epidemics condemned the countries of aggression for allowing the stranded people to return to Yemen without taking precautionary measures, indicating the deliberate spread of the epidemic on a wider scale, which puts Yemenis in front of more complex challenges.
An alert from the official authorities in the health sector to combat the infection and receive patients with corona disease, with an emphasis on raising prevention to the highest levels in hospitals and medical centers, amid the complications the country is witnessing as a result of the continued aggression and siege for nearly six years.
