125 new cases of Chikungunya disease registered in Abyan

The health authorities in the occupied Abyan province, southern Yemen, on Sunday registered 124 new cases of Chikungunya disease, known locally as “al-Mokarfiss”, which is one of the viral diseases that threaten the world after “Corona” and “Ebola”.

The health unit in the countryside of Khanfar district in Abyan said “Al-Derjaj area in Khanfar district registered 120 cases of the disease in last week only.”

Al-Razi Hospital in Ja’ar district of Abyan also announced about five cases of Chikungunya during the past 48 hours.

Chikungunya disease was discovered for the first time in Tanzania in 1952. It is a virus that transmits through mosquitoes, and it causes joint pain and high body temperature, vomiting and the appearance of a rash. The disease can affects infants, the elderly over the age of 65 and patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart. Its symptoms range from mild to severe, and the patient often begins to improve within a week of the infection.
