Syria: Fire breaks out at Homs refinery
A fire broke out at the Homs refinery early Tuesday due to an explosion of a gas compressor, Syrian state television reported .
“A fire broke out at the Homs refinery due to a gas compressor explosion in the sixth project, and civil defense personnel and the refinery fire brigade are working to put it out,” the report said, according to Reuters.
The Syrian news agency SANA quoted its correspondent, “Civil Defense elements and the Homs refinery fire brigade extinguished the fire that broke out in the sixth project due to the explosion of a gas compressor.”
The refinery, located west of Homs, is one of two major refineries that cover most of domestic demand for diesel, heating fuel, gasoline and other petroleum products, experts in the oil production sector say.
