The French Senate Warns of Danger in Marib

A French Senate delegation on Thursday warned of a “catastrophic” situation in the Yemeni city of Marib, making the planned humanitarian conference at the end of June in Paris more necessary than ever.

Natalie Jelle, who provided the initiative, the only foreign delegation to Yemen since 2014, confirmed that Marib residents moved from 400,000 to more than 3 million.

“The situation is really catastrophic,” she said, adding that “the relative stability in Marib explains the arrival of refugees from everywhere.

“Needs are enormous,” she said, particularly the needs of children living in conditions that provide minimum survival for young children.

“Humanitarian organizations can only reach Marib on the fronts, which is impossible.

Jillah predicted that the Paris conference would provide a means for non-governmental organizations to reach the oil-rich region.
The US-Saudi-led coalition has battled Yemen since March 2015 to restore power to Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 16,000 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.
Despite its claims to bomb Ansar Allah’s positions, the attackers are settling residential areas and civilian infrastructure.
According to several reports, the Saudi-led air campaign against Yemen has pushed the impoverished country into a humanitarian disaster. Saudi Arabia’s deadly campaign has prevented patients from traveling abroad for treatment and prevented the entry of medicine into the war-torn country.
Yemen is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with more than 22 million people in need and experiencing a surge in needs fueled by ongoing conflicts, a collapsed economy, and shrinking social services and livelihoods.
