Magnitute 5.8 earthquake hits northwestern Iran

A powerful earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the northwestern Iranian city of Hashtrud, the U.S. Geological Survey Center said Sunday.

According to the Center, the epicenter of the quake is located 55 kilometers northeast of Hashtrud (East Azerbaijan province), at a depth of 10 kilometers.

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale in northwestern Iran on Friday, killed six people and injured 345.
