Fisheries Ministry condemned continuation of Eritrean attacks on Yemeni fishermen

The Ministry of Fisheries condemned the attack on a Yemeni fisherman, the taking of hundreds of Yemeni fishermen to Eritrean prisons, the confiscation of their boats and equipment.

In a statement,  the Ministry of Fisheries denounced the Eritrean forces’ practice of various types of torture against Yemeni fishermen during a fishing trip in Yemeni territorial waters.

It considered the killing of the fisherman, “Al-Nusi”, a resident of the Wajiha area in Dhubab, last Thursday, by Eritrean forces’ fire during a fishing trip in Yemeni territorial waters, as a crime against humanity that comes within the crimes committed by the Eritrean forces against Yemeni fishermen.

The Ministry confirmed that the crimes of Eritrean maritime piracy and its blatant attacks are almost daily against Yemeni fishermen, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international, humanitarian law and crimes against humanity.

It also condemned the international silence and human rights organizations regarding the continued daily killing and kidnapping of Yemeni fishermen within the Yemeni regional borders.

The statement also called on the international community to take a clear and explicit stance to hold the Eritrean authorities accountable for their aggressive actions against Yemeni fishermen in the territorial waters, stressing that Yemen will defend its people and protect its territorial waters.
