Refugee Affairs Committee discusses tasks & activities of UNHCR
The National Committee for Refugees discussed in its regular meeting on Wednesday, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs – Chairman of the Committee, Hussein Al-Ezzi, the tasks and activities implemented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees during the year 1444 AH, according to national determinants, directly or through national partners in Sana’a.
During the meeting, which included the resident representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Yemen, Maya F. Amiratunga, directors of protection departments and programs and members of the committee from the national side, they discussed the challenges facing the work of the UNHCR and found appropriate ways to solve them.
The meeting touched on the work mechanisms regulating the performance of the UNHCR office in coordination with the National Committee for Refugees in light of the increasing influx of refugees, especially from countries in the Horn of Africa.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of organizations concerned with asylum and migration issues focusing on performing their duties and assuming their responsibilities under the international mandate granted to them in this context, especially with the exacerbation of the burdens resulting from this phenomenon, and in light of the siege and systematic economic war by the coalition of aggression countries.
He pointed out that Yemen, despite all circumstances, is keen to fulfill its obligations and provide facilities to international organizations, while observing at the same time the national laws and regulations.
