Minister of Human Rights meets acting representative of UNFPA
The Minister of Human Rights, Ali Al-Dailami, discussed with the Acting Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, “Hisham”, and the coordinator of the Fund’s Women’s Protection Cluster, “Florence”, a number of issues related to women’s issues, and aspects of partnership between the Fund and the Ministry.
In the meeting on Sunday, the Minister of Human Rights affirmed the interest of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in women as part of the culture of Yemenis and their Islamic values that glorify the status of women and their essential role in all areas of life.
He touched on the pro-women positions in the speeches of the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, stressing that Yemen presents a sophisticated model in defending women’s issues, compared to the suffering of women and the violations and exploitation they are exposed to in many countries of the world, especially the United States.
He expressed hope to strengthen and expand the partnership with the fund in the context of implementing a number of goals, foremost of which is the protection of women, the promotion of rights and the development of capacities. He stressed the importance of adopting priority issues in Yemen and working on them according to sequential and studied plans.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, Ali Tayseer, touched on the importance of the current year being distinguished in the Fund’s work in Yemen, by doubling the support provided for protection and development plans, pointing out that Yemen is at the top of the world countries that witnessed distinguished roles for women.
Hisham praised the efforts of the Ministry of Human Rights in defending women’s issues, and the achievements it has made in cooperation with the Population Fund, which represents an incentive towards more partnership. He hailed the experiences of many developing countries that have achieved success in involving women in development plans.
He pointed out that the scarcity of support provided to Yemen is due to the limited resources and budget of the Fund. He expressed his hope for a peace agreement that would reflect positively on the Fund’s performance in Yemen, and to build a strong partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights and the competent authorities to address population issues and rebuild what was left behind by the aggression.
In her turn, the coordinator of the Women’s Protection Cluster in the Fund confirmed the keenness to strengthen the partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights in the context of working to protect women, and to qualify workers in this field.. Noting that the bloc is about to hold a number of workshops and work with women, especially those with special needs.
Mona Al-Saqqaf stressed the importance of the meeting in order to find out the challenges faced by Yemeni women in light of the aggression and siege. Pointing to the successes achieved by the Women’s Administration in championing women’s issues in various fields.
