Jordan bans entry of food products containing cricket powder

The Food and Drug Authority in Jordan has banned the entry of food products containing cricket powder Acheta Domesticus (house cricket) to the Kingdom of Jordan.

According to the circular, the authority will seize goods that contain writing or image of the cricket insect, in addition to not allowing them to be traded in the Kingdom’s markets.

It pointed out that the ban includes a manufactured product or raw material among its components.

The circular listed the general requirements for halal food within the conditions of Jordanian standards.
