Peru president calls for investigation into foreign instigators involved in demonstrations in her country
Peru President Dina Boluarte on Friday called on her country’s prosecutor to launch an investigation to identify those responsible for more than three dozen mostly civilian deaths during anti-government demonstrations in the country.
In an address to the nation, she said: “But what about foreign instigators and infiltrators? “Everything needs to be investigated, we need results as soon as possible to determine who is really responsible for the violence.”
But the president of Peru, did not specify which foreigners in particular are being discussed. She only stressed that she welcomed the investigation launched by the Public Prosecution into the deaths of people during the protests.
Earlier, Peruvian prosecutors said investigations were underway, including the investigation against Boluarte.
The Peruvian head of state stressed that she would continue with “the government, to help uncover and establish the truth in a timely manner”.
The protests in Peru erupted on December 10 following parliament’s decision to remove Pedro Castillo as head of state, in response to his attempt to dissolve parliament and declare a state of emergency.
