Assistant Secretary-General of United Nations briefed on refugees situation in Al-Qanaws district

The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations – Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Joyce Msuya, was briefed on the conditions of the displaced in the northern Owaidan camp in Al-Qanaws district, Al-Hodeida province.

Msuya heard from the displaced people about the most prominent problems they face due to the low level of response, and the organizations’ handling of the humanitarian situation of the displaced.

During the visit, the Assistant Undersecretary of Al-Hodeida Governorate, Ghaleb Hamza, welcomed the visit of the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations to closely monitor the conditions of the displaced and their essential needs.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation branch, Abdullah Al-Ahdal, stressed the importance of working to provide the food, shelter, medicine and educational needs of the displaced to alleviate their suffering.

He pointed out that the council worked to harness all efforts to provide services in various fields to the displaced, according to what is available.

Al-Ahdal explained that Hodeida province is one of the provinces most in need of humanitarian, health and relief assistance, which necessitates the United Nations and its humanitarian organizations to expand their assistance.

For her part, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Msuya, expressed her appreciation for the cooperation of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs in facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations, stressing the importance of developing appropriate and urgent solutions and treatments for the displaced.
