Minister of Water discusses IOM’s interventions with IOM Deputy Head of Mission

 Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Abdulraqeeb al-Sharmani, on Monday, met with the Deputy Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration in Yemen, Matteo Hooper.

During the meeting, they discussed the organization’s interventions during the past period in the areas of water and environmental sanitation.

The meeting also discussed ways to implement water and environmental sanitation projects in Sana’a, Sa’ada, and Hodeida governorates and to focus on sustainable projects that serve the community, including solar projects.

The meeting reviewed the mechanism for coordination between the Ministry and the organization in the implementation of this year’s need plan, especially in Sana ‘a, Sa’ ada, and Hodeida governorates, in order to help alleviate the suffering of citizens in the circumstances of Yemen.

At the meeting, the Minister emphasized the need to strengthen coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to implement the required water and environmental sanitation interventions.

The Ministry was keen to expand the areas of partnership with the organization and make use of donor funding to cover the need for water and sanitation projects, including alternative energy projects, which were the most appropriate option during the current phase of water well operation.

The Minister of Water expressed the hope that the organization will have an active presence on the list of water and sanitation financiers during this year. Willingness to cooperate with the Organization through the submission of the Actual Water and Environmental Sanitation Project Needs Plan.

The Deputy Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) stressed IOM’s desire to expand its partnership with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation projects in the coming period.
