Powerful earthquake hits Taiwan island
A 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the island of Taiwan, injuring one person and causing a bridge under construction to collapse, The US Geological Survey reported .
According to AFP, the earthquake occurred off the east coast of the island and was felt across much of the island.
The US observatory located the epicenter of the earthquake at sea, in the tourist city of Hualien in Set at a depth of 10 km, 70 km south.
According to Taiwan Civil Defense, a man was injured and hospitalized.
The National Fire Service said a bridge under construction in Hualien City collapsed due to the earthquake.
The island of Taiwan lies above the meeting point of two tectonic plates, which constantly exposes it to earthquakes.
