Agriculture & Irrigation Minister meets IFAD & FAO teams in Yemen

Agriculture and Irrigation Minister in the caretaker government, Engineer Abdul-Malik Al-Thawr, met today,Satuarday, with the teams of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Yemen.

The meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Dr. Radwan Al-Rubai, discussed the mechanism for enhancing cooperation between Yemen and the IFAD Fund, and the possibility of expanding areas of partnership with FAO in supporting activities and the agricultural sector, in a way that enhances its role in achieving food security.

The meeting stressed the importance of the International Fund (IFAD) restoring its activity to finance and implement agricultural projects ,activities and continuing to support development programs and contribute to improving the sources of livelihood for farmers and alleviating their suffering as a result of the repercussions of the aggression and blockade.

In the meeting, the caretaker Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation pointed out the importance of restoring dispatch activity, with a focus on directing support to agricultural projects and programs concerned with the infrastructure of the agricultural sector.

He stressed the necessity of re-approving aid to Yemen, which had previously been agreed upon through the delegation.

For his part, the Regional Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Tawfiq Al-Ziri, expressed the Fund’s desire to resume its activity in Yemen and work to support aspects of development in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the Yemenis.

The meeting was attended by FAO agricultural official Dr. Ashraf Al-Hawamdeh and a number of officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
